California Lutheran High School Update
April, 2009
Celebrate with Joy!
Celebrate the Resurrection!
Celebrate with joy the resurrection of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ!  What a joy it is for CLHS to be a ministry that proclaims this message daily.  We at CLHS wish you Easter blessings.

I’ll Keep My Eyes on the Cross
This Palm Sunday, April 5, over 300 CLHS family members joined in the gymnasium for the annual Easter sacred concert.  Attendees were taken on a musical journey through our Lord’s passion.  Academic Principal and vocal choirs’ director Steve Rosenbaum developed a beautiful service that culminated with the amassed choir’s message to keep our eyes on the cross of Christ throughout the year.  If you have never joined us for a concert, please think about adding it to your calendar.  Check the website for the dates of next year’s Christmas and Easter concerts.

Financial News
The Lord continues to bless CLHS with support in so many ways.  The annual C-Hawk Spectacular Silent and Live Auction was a success bringing in over $40,000.  Thank you to all who participated in some way! However, contributions from congregations and individuals in the month of March were sorely under budget at $8725.  We are still $4900 ahead of budgeted needed gifts.  However, due to the lower than expected enrollment, CLHS board of directors is anticipating over a $100,000 cash deficit.

In an effort to help CLHS cover that shortfall, the Antioch Foundation has graciously granted CLHS $45,000 in matching funds.  Through this fiscal year (ending June 30, 2009), your donations will be matched $3 to $1.  Our goal is to raise $135,000 in contributions to get the full $45,000 match.  Let’s rally behind the CLHS ministry to make full use of this grant opportunity!  Please call Superintendent Andrew Aguilar with any questions.

Enrollment News
The 2009-2010 school year registration has begun.  Students from our WELS/ELS churches and schools, local students, and international students are gearing up to start their high school journey at CLHS.  Our international program (CLIP) has planned to double the enrollment from overseas (10 students).  We celebrate with joy the opportunity to instruct these teens in the truths of God’s Word as they prepare for lives of service to Him. For enrollment information, please call the school office.

Dorms Get a New Coat
Thanks to several volunteers, the weekend dorm students, and Thrivent Financial for Lutherans, the CLHS dormitory received a beautiful new paint job.  Thrivent funded the paint and the delicious lunch for the volunteers.  Thanks to the San Diego Chapter of Thrivent for their consistent support of California Lutheran High School.
